History of Highway 12
Highway 12 Wines

The History

Wine and Highway 12 share a history dating back over 150 years, a history that reaches from the Sonoma Coast to the Sierra Foothills.

Actually wine was first planted in the present Highway 12 corridor in 1825 by the Franciscan padres of the Sonoma Mission. Commercial vineyards first began appearing in the mid-1800's almost simultaneously all along the current route as far east as the legendary '49er Gold Country.

Sonoma Valley / Carneros

That portion of Highway 12 that passes through idyllic Sonoma Valley and the famed Carneros District is perhaps the most diverse of the wine road's entire 139 mile span. Also with the greatest concentration of quality fruit, this "neighborhood" is home to much of California's finest wine.

It's this neighborhood we call home and in which we produce the wines of Highway 12 - each a salute to an exceptional legacy and a celebration of all the great wines yet to come.
